The Silk Road Ensemble joins forces with the Mark Morris Dance Group, mugham vocalists Alim Qasimov and Fargana Qasimova, and painter Howard Hodgkin for the world premiere performances of Layla and Majnun this fall in Berkeley, California.
The story of Layla and Majnun, most notably expressed by the Persian poet Nizami Ganjavi, is told through the music of Uzeyir Hajibeyli, and arranged by Alim Qasimov with Silkroad’s Johnny Gandelsman and Colin Jacobsen.
