Yo-Yo Ma continues his 36-location Bach journey in 2019, taking the project to locations new and familiar around the world.
“We live in a world of boundless possibility, but we also face daunting challenges, even to our very survival,” says Yo-Yo. “I believe that during times of stress, confusion, and insecurity, we should share sources that offer comfort, purpose, and meaning. Bach does that. When his music touches us, it reconnects us to our common humanity.”
Yo-Yo will perform the cello suites at the Laurie Auditorium in San Antonio on April 12. He takes the suites to Vienna’s Musikverein on May 28, 2019 and Tanglewood on August 11, 2019. In November 2019, the project goes Australia and New Zealand, marking Yo-Yo’s first performances ever there. He will play the suites at the Sydney Opera House on November 4, Arts Centre Melbourne on November 8, and Christchurch Town Hall on November 12.
Alongside each performance will be a Day of Action, an opportunity for Yo-Yo and community organizations to come together and explore how #cultureconnectsus.
Stay tuned for more 2019 Bach dates, to be announced soon.
