Following his summer performances at Tanglewood and in Saratoga Springs, Yo-Yo Ma embarks on a tour of Europe, where the American cellist appears at the Salzburg Festival with the Boston Symphony Orchestra on August 25 in a concert featuring Strauss’s Don Quixote with conductor Andris Nelsons and violist Steven Ansell. In a solo performance on August 29 at the Salzburg Festival, Ma highlights Bach’s first, fifth, and sixth cello suites.
Yo-Yo Ma’s performances with the BSO continue on August 31 at the Lucerne Festival, and on September 3 at the newly opened Philharmonie de Paris, where he reprises Strauss’ Don Quixote with Nelsons and Ansell.
Following his BSO performances, Ma takes the stage of the BBC Proms on September 5 to perform the complete Bach solo cello suites. The marathon performance will be broadcast live on BBC Radio3 on the air and online worldwide.
On September 7, Ma guests with the Czech Philharmonic in Dvorak’s Cello Concerto under the baton of Jiří Bělohlávek in a performance that inaugurates the Dvorak Prague Music Festival.
Rounding out his European appearances, Ma joins Daniele Gatti and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra for a September 10 performance of Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1.
