Yo-Yo Ma joins the Silk Road Ensemble for two nights of performances on February 21 and 22 as part of the ensemble’s residency at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
On February 21, the Ensemble presents the world premieres of two works: Silk Road Ensemble member and tabla player Sandeep Das’s King Ashoka and percussionist/composer Glenn Kotche’s Mille Étoiles. Alongside these new works, the Ensemble performs Shane Shanahan’s Ichichila and Kinan Azmeh’s Wedding.
The February 22 concert spotlights works inspired by a wide range of musical traditions including: Syrian, Japanese, Persian, Argentinian, Malian, Scandinavian, Sicilian and Galician.
